So, did they encounter aliens? Or were they just high? Whatever the inspiration was, there was apparently plenty of it. Go hiking just about anywhere in this area and you’ve got a decent chance seeing some ancient “rock art” or petroglyphs.
Gold Butte National Monument is a short drive from our home, although road conditions will make it time consuming. We started out on “Falling Man Trail,” so named for a famous petroglyph you’ll encounter along the way.
There are several petroglyphs and panels along the trail, including Calvin’s Rock…

…and 21 Goats….

…and Khota Circus.
Snow Canyon State Park is a short drive north of us and a favorite spot to take visitors. More recently, we became aware of some “hidden” petroglyphs there and decided to check them out.
We walked right by this little slot canyon before eventually figuring out that it was what we were looking for.

We made a return trip with our neighbors and ended up finding more nearby…

….and they went back again with a group and found still more!
We made a short road trip to Arrow Canyon Wilderness for a hike. Guess what?

Finally, my neighbor and I took off in his SxS for the Mormon Mountains Wilderness for a hike last week.

We saw some pretty cool stuff on the hike as well the trip to and from. Oh, and we got snowed on!
I’m very confident that as we continue to explore the West, we’ll continue to discover more of these interesting artifacts.
Stay tuned!
