We headed south from Reedsport, OR, stopping for a couple of hikes around lakes just off the beach. While the hikes were beautiful, they were increasingly on and around large sand dunes making it challenging for older legs. We continued south to Coos Bay, OR, stopping at 7 Devils Devils Brewing Co for an executive planning session.
Really interesting venue with very good beer! At this point, we made the decision to jog inland with a more direct route towards home and save the Northern California coast for another trip. We ended up boondocking near McCloud, CA and hiking around Mt. Shasta the next day.

Continuing south, we had designs on visiting Lassen Volcanic National Park, however, it was closed due to wildfires. We settled for a visit to Lassen Ale Works in Susanville, CA instead. Excellent black lager! We had plans to stay at a brewery in Reno, NV, however, we ultimately decided to push on for home. I think we have both come to the conclusion that 3 months or so is about our limit for vanlife. We arrived in Mesquite around 11:00 pm to a 99 degree house and a non functioning air conditioner, so one more night sleeping in the van!
Final stats from this trip:
3 months
10,979 miles
7 states
3 Canadian provinces
9 National Parks (5 US, 4 Canadian)
46 Breweries :)
1 broken windshield
For now, it’s back to the routine of pickleball, working out, gambling, rinse, repeat. No immediate plans for any van trips, but that will most likely change over the coming weeks.
Stay tuned!
Really enjoyed the commentary of this trip!
